Mailbird Next does not include a built-in spam-detection engine that independently identifies unwanted messages. Instead, it relies on your email provider's spam filtering. You can also use Block Sender and Filters in Mailbird Next to manage unwanted emails.
π« How spam filtering works in Mailbird Next
Your email provider, such as Gmail, Outlook or your hosting company, checks incoming messages and decides whether to deliver them to your Inbox or Spam/Junk folder. Mailbird Next displays the messages and folders synchronized from that account.
- If your provider places an email in Spam or Junk, it should appear in the corresponding folder in Mailbird Next once synchronized.
- If your provider delivers an unwanted email to your Inbox, Mailbird Next does not independently detect it as spam. It can remain in the Inbox unless you take action or a matching filter applies.
Having a Spam folder, blocking an address or creating a filter is not the same as having an automatic spam-detection engine.
βοΈ Improve your email provider's spam filtering
If too much spam reaches your Inbox, sign in to your email account through your provider's website (webmail):
- Use the provider's Report spam or Junk option for unwanted messages.
- Review your provider's spam settings, blocked senders and any rules that may be allowing unwanted mail through.
- If a legitimate message is incorrectly classified, use the provider's Not spam or Not junk option and review any relevant blocked-sender settings.
The available controls and how they affect future filtering depend on your provider. For persistent problems, contact your email provider or your organization's email administrator.
β Block a specific sender in Mailbird Next
For repeated unwanted emails from the same address, use Block Sender:
- Open an email from the sender.
- Click the More options menu (three dots) in the email header.
- Select Block Sender and confirm.
Future messages from that address are automatically moved to your Spam folder. Blocking works per email address; it does not automatically block every address at the same domain or replace your provider's spam filtering.
You can manage blocked senders in Settings > Advanced. For full instructions, see Block Sender in Mailbird Next.
π Use filters for unwanted messages that match specific conditions
Mailbird Next filters let you apply actions to messages based on conditions you choose, such as the sender or text in the subject or message body.
- Open Settings > Filters.
- Select the mailbox and click Add Filter.
- Give the filter a name and define its conditions.
- Choose an action, such as Mark as Spam or Delete.
- Save the filter and ensure it is enabled. Use Save and run only if you also want to apply it to existing messages in the selected mailbox.
Filters follow your conditions; they do not automatically learn which messages are spam. Use specific conditions to avoid moving legitimate messages by mistake. See Filters in Mailbird Next for supported conditions and actions.
π© Unsubscribe from legitimate newsletters
For newsletters you recognize and no longer want, Mailbird Next may show an Unsubscribe button when supported unsubscribe information is available. See Using the Unsubscribe Button in Mailbird Next.
For suspicious or phishing messages, avoid clicking links or opening attachments. Report them through your email provider instead of following an unsubscribe link in the message.
