If you’ve been using the App Store version of Mailbird Next and would like to switch to the version downloaded directly from our website (i.e. the non-App Store version), you can easily transfer your existing emails, accounts, and settings. Follow the steps below to ensure a smooth migration.
📝 Note: If you need to migrate your data from the non-App Store version to the App Store version of Mailbird instead, then please refer to this other article.
🧩 Before You Begin
Please make sure:
You have Mailbird Next installed from both the App Store and the Mailbird website (i.e. the non-App Store version).
Both apps are closed before starting.
You are comfortable using Finder’s “Go to Folder” feature on macOS.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1️⃣ Quit Mailbird 🛑
Make sure that no instance of Mailbird (App Store or non-App Store version) is currently running in the background. To check:
Right-click the Mailbird icon in the Dock (if visible) and select Quit.
Open Activity Monitor and ensure there are no active Mailbird processes.
2️⃣ Locate the App Store Mailbird Data Folder 📂
In Finder, click Go in the top menu and select Go to Folder…
Copy and paste the following path, then press Enter: ~/Library/Containers/com.getmailbird.mailbird.appstore/Data/.local/share/MailbirdNext/Release

In this folder, press and hold the Command (⌘) key, then left-click to select the following folders:
AvatarsStore
Right-click the selected folders and choose Copy
3️⃣ Paste Data into the Non-App Store Mailbird Folder 📥
Again, open Finder → Go → Go to Folder…
Paste the following path and press Enter: ~/.local/share/MailbirdNext/Release/
Right-click in the empty space within this folder and select Paste Item.
If prompted to replace existing folders, click Replace
4️⃣ Launch Mailbird (Non-App Store Version) 🚀
Now, open the version of Mailbird Next that you installed from our website.
You should see:
All your email accounts
Messages, avatars, and settings exactly as they appeared in the App Store version.
✅ Success!
You’ve successfully migrated your Mailbird Next data from the App Store version to the non-App Store version.
