🌐 What Is a Proxy Server?

A proxy server acts as an intermediary between your computer and the internet. Proxies are commonly used in offices, schools, and corporate networks to regulate internet access, filter content, or route traffic through a specific gateway.

⚙️ How Mailbird Next Handles Proxies

Mailbird Next automatically uses your system’s proxy settings to connect to email servers. In most cases, no additional configuration is needed inside Mailbird itself.

If your Mac is already configured to use a proxy (via System Settings → Network → Proxies), Mailbird Next will respect those settings when connecting to your mail servers.

🔐 Proxy Authentication

If your proxy requires a username and password, make sure these credentials are entered in your Mac’s system proxy settings:

  1. Open System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS versions).
  2. Go to Network and select your active connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
  3. Click Details… (or Advanced…), then navigate to the Proxies tab.
  4. Enable the appropriate proxy type (e.g., Web Proxy HTTP, Secure Web Proxy HTTPS).
  5. Enter the proxy server address, port, and authentication credentials.
  6. Click OK, then Apply.

Once your system proxy is configured correctly, Mailbird Next will use those settings automatically.

🛠️ Troubleshooting Proxy Issues

If you’re having trouble connecting to your email accounts through a proxy, try the following:

  • Verify your proxy settings in System Settings → Network → Proxies.
  • Check with your network administrator to confirm the proxy address, port, and credentials are correct.
  • Test without the proxy temporarily (e.g., connect to a different network) to confirm the issue is proxy-related.
  • Ensure your proxy allows connections to your email provider’s IMAP/SMTP or Exchange servers on the required ports (e.g., 993, 587, 443).

⚠️ Error Reference

If you see Error #22 in Mailbird Next, it typically indicates a proxy or network connectivity issue preventing Mailbird from reaching the mail server. Follow the troubleshooting steps above to resolve it.
