💬 Group or Ungroup Email Messages by Conversation

Mailbird Next allows you to choose how your emails are displayed in your message list. You can either group emails by conversation (threaded view) or show each message individually (unthreaded view), depending on your personal preference and workflow.

This setting is especially useful for users who manage high volumes of email or participate in long back-and-forth discussions.

⚙️ How to Enable or Disable Conversation View

To change how your emails are displayed:

  1. Click the Settings menu icon down the lefthand side.

  2. Navigate to the Advanced tab.

  3. Here, you'll find a section titled Startup and App behavior.

  4. In this section, toggle Group messages by conversation on or off.

The change is applied instantly and does not require restarting the app.

🧵 Benefits of Grouping Emails by Conversation

When conversation view is enabled, related emails are grouped together into a single thread.

This is ideal if you want to:

  • Follow long discussions without searching for individual replies.

  • Keep your inbox visually cleaner and more organized.

  • Reduce clutter from repetitive subject lines.

  • Quickly see the full history of a conversation in one place.

  • Focus on context instead of isolated messages.

This mode works best for collaborative environments, support inboxes, and ongoing email chains.

📩 Benefits of Ungrouping Emails (Individual View)

When conversation view is disabled, each email appears as a separate entry in your inbox.

This is helpful if you prefer to:

  • Treat every email as an independent task.

  • Avoid missing important replies hidden inside threads.

  • Sort and filter messages more precisely.

  • Work with email as a linear to-do list.

  • Archive or delete specific messages without affecting an entire conversation.

This mode is often preferred by users who rely heavily on manual email processing or task-based workflows.

🔄 Which Option Should You Choose?

There is no “right” or “wrong” setting — it comes down to how you work. Different Mailbird users have different needs. You can:

  • Choose grouped conversations for better context and cleaner inboxes.

  • Choose ungrouped messages for granular control and task-driven email management.

You can switch between both modes at any time, making it easy to experiment and find what works best for your daily workflow.
