đź”’ Overview
If you see a server certificate error while adding or accessing an email account in Mailbird Next, it means the app has detected an issue with the security certificate provided by the mail server.
This article outlines the most common causes of this error and how to resolve them.
🔍 Common Causes of Certificate Errors
Here are some typical reasons you might encounter this issue:
-
Domain Mismatch
-
The mail server’s domain does not match the domain in the certificate. This can happen if you're using the wrong server settings or recently changed your domain without updating the certificate.
-
-
Expired or Invalid Certificate:
-
The certificate has expired.
-
Your computer's system date/time is incorrect (e.g., due to travel or a time zone change).
-
-
Self-Signed Certificate:
-
The certificate was issued by an unrecognized authority instead of a trusted Certificate Authority (CA).
-
🛠️ Troubleshooting Steps
Before proceeding, make sure you’re actually connecting to the correct and trusted mail server. If you’ve recently changed your domain or hosting provider, ensure the SSL certificate has been updated accordingly.
You have two options when prompted by Mailbird Next:
-
Click “Yes” if:
-
You trust the server and understand the risk.
-
You’ve confirmed it’s safe to proceed.
Mailbird Next will connect and will remember your choice for that server.
-
-
Click “No” if:
-
You're unsure about the certificate's validity.
-
You want to avoid potential security risks.
Mailbird Next will block the connection and will not prompt you again unless you restart the app.
