One of Mailbird for Mac's best productivity tools is undoubtedly its Email Tracking feature.
Before we show you how Email Tracking works in Mailbird for Mac, let's take a look at some general facts about Email Tracking.
- The number of emails you can track each month depends on which Mailbird license you own.
- Our Mailbird Free license does not include Email Tracking
- Our Mailbird Standard license allows up to 5 tracked emails per month.
- Our Mailbird Premium licenses allows an unlimited number of tracked emails per month.
-
Only you have access to tracking information.
- As a Mailbird for Mac customer, you alone will be able to track the emails which you send. In fact, we want to assure you that Email Tracking does not mean that your emails are tracked by us in any way. Only you can can view an email's tracking information.
-
Email Tracking does not mean that Mailbird for Mac isn't secure.
- No information besides the opening time and who has opened an email can be tracked. Nothing else is either shared or collected, and it works in exactly the same way as with other email clients.
-
Tracking an email may not always be possible.
- If one of your recipients does not allow remote images to be displayed inside of their email client, then it will not be possible to generate any tracking information because Email Tracking technology relies on a tracking pixel (i.e. an incredibly tiny image embedded within an email).
- Another exception involves any recipients who use Apple Mail with Privacy Protection - in these cases, Mailbird's Email Tracking will show that your email has been opened already, but this is actually a 'false positive', and should not be considered accurate.
- One final limitation involves emails sent from a Microsoft Exchange account to multiple email addresses - for reasons beyond our control, Mailbird for Mac will not be able to tell who has opened the email.
We are keen to reiterate that since we value our customers' privacy, we have designed this feature very strictly, so that it only tracks the following two pieces of information which are only visible to you:
- Who has opened an email.
- When an email was opened.
Not only does Mailbird for Mac never share or collect the content of any emails which are sent (whether tracked or untracked), but it also never gathers information on the location of recipients of emails.

Email Tracking Status
After you have sent an email with Email Tracking enabled, you will be able to see whether or not your email has been read by heading to your Sent items, and taking a look at the checkmarks which appear next to your email,
However, once the recipient has replied to your initial email, you will be able to view the tracking status of any subsequent replies directly from your Inbox.
As you will notice in the image below, there are two blue checkmarks next to an email in the Inbox, but there can be three possible combinations of checkmarks which we will take you through now.
- If both checkmarks are grey, then none of the recipients have opened your email yet.
- If one checkmark is blue, then some recipients have opened your email.
- If both checkmarks are blue, then all recipients have opened your email.
If you're ever unsure what these checkmarks actually mean, simply hover over them with your mouse and you'll be able to see additional information on the status of any tracked email.
It's also possible to view any Email Tracking information directly from the email preview section of Mailbird for Mac - simply click on any tracked email in your Inbox, and when the preview appears, you will be able to see the tracked status information for each message you have sent (as shown below).
